“Today for me is a very special day, a first and concrete recognition of a
battle that I have undertaken since the adverse fate took away the most
precious good that life had given me”. This is how Teresa Giglio, the
mother of Tiziana Cantone, the 31-year-old from Mugnano di Napoli, who
committed suicide on September 13, 2016, commented on the revenge porn
after the online release of a hot video of her. In a long post on facebook,
the woman expresses all her joy: «Now after a long time a ray of light has
opened, after so many dribbles and other priorities on the part of the
politicians who previously governed us. In fact, despite my desperate
appeals, I don’t remember that it was a priority theme for those who
previously governed us ».

After the tragedy that struck her, Teresa fought to make parliamentarians
aware of the importance of punishing certain behaviors that find their way
onto social networks, ruining the lives of so many people, as happened to
her daughter Tiziana. The last battle to win for the Lily, perhaps the most
difficult, remains that of the true right to oblivion, given that even
today, despite warnings and complaints to multinationals that manage social
platforms, Tiziana’s video is still online.

“My purpose – continues Giglio on social media – is to restore dignity and
respect to Tiziana but also to help many other victims of this ignoble and
devious violence that is perpetrated on the web, yet another against a
woman, a new form di femicidi. No one else has to go through the hell that
had to endure Tiziana, that’s why I founded the association ‘Tiziana
Cantone for the other. My only interest has always been to force the
institutions to legislate an ad hoc law in Italy as in many other countries
». The story of Tiziana Cantone has had numerous repercussions on the
judicial, civil and criminal level. The numerous open criminal
investigations, however, have not had a positive outcome, in particular
those on the instigation to suicide (Procura di Napoli Nord), closed with
archiving; the one for libel (Procura di Napoli) was also archived, which
involved the five boys who were part of the chat with Tiziana, in which the
hot video depicting the girl would be released for the first time. The
proceedings for slander against Tiziana’s ex-boyfriend Sergio Di Palo, who
has always been accused by Teresa Giglio of being responsible for her
daughter’s death, remains in Naples.

On the civil level, however, Tiziana’s mother was able to obtain an
important sentence from the Aversa judge, who in November 2016 censored
Facebook by providing that the links and information relating to Tiziana
should be removed once the illegality emerged of the contents; and this
regardless of a specific order of the administrative or judicial authority.
A pronunciation that however did not serve to completely remove the movie
from the net.
